WongKito is Palembang’s blogger community which formed to thighten relationship among the bloggers who live in Palembang and those outside but had special relationship to Palembang.

WongKito wishes to become Palembang’s information media, for examples its culinary, tourism, cultures and others which become people’s interest especially from outside Palembang and Indonesia. Its aim also to improve Palembang’s human resources with their social activities such as WongKito Goes to School, Blogger Care, etc.

Requirements for WongKito’s member are :

* Born in Palembang or its decendant
* Live in Palembang
* Ever live in Palembang for some significant time
* Have strong emotion with Palembang

Palembang Bike-to-Work Community

Started from a group of mountain bike fans who have the spirit, ideas and expectations to realize clean air environment in urban areas, there was born Bike-to-Work Community on 6 August 2004 which has the first campaign to use a bicycle to work.

Now, alternative transportation vehicle user are growing, so it is necessary to made this movement can be more socialized.

On August 27 2005 they made Declaration & Joint Statement of Community & Bike to Work in Jakarta, which was then set as the birth-date of Community-B2W Indonesia. Management of CommunityB2W Indonesia formed on January 27, 2006. Then this community is committed to campaign of use bicycles as alternative transportation, especially to support the day-to-day activities.

FOKKU Palembang

Forum Keluarga Komering Ulu (FOKKU, Komering Ulu Families Forum) is Komering Ulu’s people organization which globally participate on National Development and locally Komering Ulu and South Sumatera development.

As the biggest tribe on South Sumatera, this organization very active with their internal and external programs and events, for examples low-prices bazaar, fund-rising bazaar, and other social activities. Many important person of South Sumatera involve on this organization.

DSIM Palembang

Dompet Sosial Insan Mulia (DSIM) is a non-profit business that focus to raise social dignity of poor people donated in form of zakat, infaq, shadaqah, wakaf, and also other legal and halal fund from the society, not only individually, group but also Corporate Social Responsibility.

DSIM was establish at 15th of January 2002 and affirmed as the first ‘Lembaga Amil Zakat’ in South Sumatera based on Decree from the Governor of South Sumatera dated 23rd of December 2002.

Until the end of 2008, the institution that is joined in Pengelola Zakat Dompet Dhuafa Republika Jakarta has had 2.690 donators who trust their money to be managed and distributed trough DSIM. They are caring noble-hearted people who come from the professional, educated, and wealthy.

The fund collected and distributed in various program as :

Layanan Kesehatan Cuma-cuma (LKC), a free health service
Madrasah Ummat (MU), a free Moslem education
Community Services and Human Development (Layanan Masyarakat dan Pengembangan Insani, LMPI)
Tebar Hewan Kurban (THK) dan Akikah kita, a program to share cattle and meat for religious purposes.

UNFPA, The United Nations Population Fund, is an international development agency that promote the right of every woman, man, and child to enjoy a life of health and equal opportunity, UNFPA support countries in using population data for policies and programmers to reduce poverty and to ensure that every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe, every young person is free HIV/AIDS and every girls and woman is treated with dignity and respect.

Our partners in South Sumatera: Bappeda, Dinkes, Diknas, Biro Pemb. Perempuan, BKKBN, BPS, AIDS Commissions, IFPPD (Indonesian Forum Parliamentarian for Population and Development), WCC (Women Crisis Centre).

Some activities that have been conducted during 7th cycle (2006 – 2010) in South Sumatera are

Talk Show; in related with Reproductive Health and Domestic Violence Issues

Support for selected Puskesmas in OKI District for availability of Integrated Reproductive Health Services.

Alumni of Palembang Senior High School 2

Alumni of Palembang Senior High School 2 has an active online community. It can be seen from their blog which is always updated. Alumni profiles was available structurally from 1968 to 2007 facilitated with availability of YM representation for every generation, for time and space reason, many alumni prefer to communicate via internet.

Moreover, to make the communication better, this school also has their own milist in Google groups and face book for Alumni SMUN 2 Palembang with motto “Dari Puncak menuju Puncak (from Top to Top)”.

IATEK UNSRI

IATEK UNSRI is the abbreviation of Ikatan Alumni Teknik Kimia Universitas Sriwijaya (Chemical Engineering Alumni Association of Sriwijaya University). It is established at 2nd of November 1975 in Palembang as a place for alumni of Chemical engineering major of Sriwijaya University.

Chemistry Department of Sriwijaya University was founded July 1964 in Palembang and approved by the Rector UNSRI on 12 June 1965.

This organization has a milist in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iatek_org , for online alumni registration in website, the form is available. It works also as the basis to make Chemical Engineering Alumni Association of Sriwijaya University database.
