Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium

There are at least 4 big stadiums in Palembang, they are Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium as the new main stadium with international standard, Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium as the old main stadium, Kamboja Stadium, and Patra Jaya Stadium. Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium Palembang opened for Pekan Olahraga Nasional (Indonesia Games) XVI 2004 Sumatera Selatan (South Sumatera). Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium, the third biggest stadium in Indonesia after Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Palaran Samarinda Stadium, is the main centerpiece of Palembang sports complex. It has a maximum seating capacity of 55,000 spectactors with 40 ha areas wide.

The AFC Asian Cup in 2007 was held in Indonesia, and they used Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium for group D semifinal match between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain and also the quarter final match between Japan and South Korea. This stadium is also as a basecamp of Sriwijaya FC, the local football club and the twice winner of Indonesian Super League in 2007 and 2008.
