Jeep Willys antique cars still operate in palembang city corner until now. The vehicle is inherited from World War II, looks like Jeepney public transportation in Philipine and can also be found in Jl. KH. Azhari to Plaju which route from Simapangtiga 10 ulu market, also at 7 ulu to 1 ulu plaju near Kertapati’s Train Station and around Jl. Sosial at KM 5 Palembang to Lebongsiaran, Ilir Timur. At those areas, the traffic density is not filled with luxurious vehicle or new public transportation (angkot), but it is dominated by antique cars as Jeep Willys type.
Palembang people call this car as “Ketek Car” because the sound of these cars are really similar with “Ketek Boat” engine that operates along Musi river. The owner of the antique cars are not from the antique cars collector but from public transportation owner that own it from generation to generation.
Despite the fast growth of development in Palembang city. The existence of “Ketek Car” are threatened to vanish completely. This is because of the lack of spare parts supply that make the car maintenance so though to be done simultaneously, and the antique car also failed to compete with newer or modern ones.
